Are New Years Resolutions still a thing?

There are so many memes, hilarious even, about those who create resolutions for the new year and with the past few years we have had with Covid, the "be quiet and tiptoe into the new year" ones are knee slappers.

But have we lost sight of what these resolutions really mean because so many of us have failed to be committed to them?

A New Years resolution is a tradition, most common in the Western World but also found in the Eastern World, in which a person resolves to continue good practices, change an undesired trait or behavior, accomplish a personal goal, or otherwise improve their behaviour at the beginning of a calendar year. -Wikipedia

These are things we do anyways, throughout the year. Am I right? I'm constantly working to manifest a professional goal, working my ass off for the scale, promising myself that I will make healthier choices for my family meals.

Perhaps if we would look at it slightly in a different way, our disdain for resolutions would change. I look at them as a portion of SMART goals. Specifically the "T", as in "Time frame" or "Timeline". When do I want to accomplish this? By the end of 2023.

I did one of those social media tests a few weeks ago. It was a word search. It read: The first 4 words you see will be what you can expect for the new year. The first 4 words that I saw were CHANGE, CONNECTION, BREAKTHROUGH, PURPOSE.

Now I don't believe the hype, however, based on where I am currently and where I want to be by the end of next year, I CHOOSE these words to serve as a reminder. I give them life and I give them power to manifest in 2023.

xoxo, The Mama
